A little unlucky at the moment!

Took the  decision to leave Franz Joseph yesterday to drive to Wanaka over the Haast Pass as the  weather was bad again. The day started off quite well. Stopped off at  a few places to have a nose and take the odd picture in the  rain! On one occasion however I put my phone on the roof of the car, went into the  boot to do something and forgot about it! Just caught a glimpse of something  in the rear view mirror and thought nothing of it until I went to plug my phone in to charge it and then realised what it was! By the time I went back and found it it had unfortunately been run over! Oh dear I hear you say! But save any sympathy at this stage! Perhaps 20 kilometers on, the  car started to slow and slow and slow, and came to a stand still with steam pouring from the engine. Head gasket had blown! So stuck in the wilderness  with no phone and no car! The first car to come along stopped to help. Turned out she was a local lady and that there was a village about 10 kilometers further on. The nice lady was called Bridget and Bridget knew all of the people who lived there and vice versa. Still 60 kilometers to Wanaka and Glen facing a 300 hundred dollar bill to get the car removed there. Anyway Bridget talked to her husband who talked to the local deer farmer who talked to a Maouri lad called Boss. I needed to lose the car and he agreed to take it off my hands! He organised for the carthe car to be relocated to his place, let me use his computer to source a hire car, found me somewhere to stay the night and ran me into Wanaka early this morning. All I had to do then was organise a bus to Queenstown to get the hire car and buy a new phone! Got back mid evening with the new car and phone and will transfer all my stuff in the morning! And then ..... the journey continues!. Just got to stitch the hole up in my pocket now!! But just to give you a heads up. The journey from Makarora, where I am staying, to Queenstown is the most awesome  to date. And I'm going to do it all again tomorrow! Just hope I can retrieve the pictures from my old phone now. Fingers crossed! Better talk to the holiday insurance company re the phone as well! I hate dealing with insurance companies.

Night, night. God bless

Glen x

  1. Oh dear! All part of life's rich tapestry. But stay positive, Queenstown is absolutely great and the birth place, of course, of bungee jumping. Enjoy! And take care.

  2. It would appear that your trip is throwing up some interesting situations! Glad you got it sorted...however, it's not the first time you've left an item of value on the roof of a car! X
